The Read Aloud browser extension includes feature called “Content Optimization.” When this feature is accepted, the extension transmits the following data, for each page navigation, to our servers at https://app.readaloud.net/api/v1/optimization-rules over HTTPS:

The URL of the page you are currently visiting (targetUrl).
The URL of the previous page in the same tab, when applicable (referrerUrl).
The HTTP Content-Type of the page response.
The HTTP status code of the page response.
The HTTP request method (e.g., GET, POST).
Whether the tab is currently active in the foreground.
A randomly generated, persistent per-installation identifier (instanceId).
The timestamp of the navigation.

Why we collect this data
This data is used for the following purposes:

Retrieve site-specific text-extraction rules from our servers, so the extension can correctly identify the readable content of a page and skip elements like navigation menus or advertisements. Many sites change structure between extension releases, and server-side rules let us fix extraction without requiring you to install an update.
Diagnose situations where extraction fails — for example, on pages that return non-HTML Content-Types or non-2xx HTTP status codes.
Understand aggregate feature usage, such as the number of unique installations actively using the feature.
